For those who knew Douglas Ann “Doug” Newsom, her tenacity, humor, professionalism, and strict adherence to public relations ethics made her a model to others in the profession and solidified her legacy. Her influence continues to reverberate throughout the DFW region and beyond, thanks to her decades of service to PRSA and advancing the profession of public relations. The Greater Fort Worth and Dallas chapters of PRSA mourn the loss of this staunch beacon of our profession, who passed away May 24, 2021, after a long illness.

“Quick reflection. She was the author of my first PR textbook in 1980 while I was in college in Missouri. Then I moved to Fort Worth, joined PRSA there and found out Doug was a woman. What a privilege to have known her. And yes, I still have that PR textbook.”
Scott A. Collins, APR
Senior Vice President of Communications, Buckner International
PRSA Dallas Board Member
“For those who didn’t have an opportunity to meet Dr. Newsom, you truly missed meeting a phenomenal woman. She will be missed by many, but her legacy in our profession will live on for ages.”
Pamela Thompson, APR
PRSA Dallas President
