It’s that time of year when PRSA Dallas is on the search for new leaders for its board of directors. And one of those new leaders can be you!
If you’ve paused to entertain the idea of joining the board when you see our emails or social posts, if you’re looking for an opportunity to exercise and develop your leadership skills and if you want to help the chapter continue to grow in being a leading resource for future generations of PR, communications and marketing professionals, then board leadership is calling your name!
Through Sunday, August 18, we are accepting applications for nine (9) positions:
Officers
-
President-elect, one-year term* that assumes the presidency on Jan. 1, 2026
-
Vice president, one-year term (three (3) positions available) - VPs of DE&I, Marketing, and Programs
-
Secretary, one-year term
-
Treasurer, one-year term
Directors
-
Director-at-large, two-year term (three (3) positions available)
What is the application and interview process?
The application and interview process are easy. Fill in the application on Submittable (you’ll need to create an account if you don’t yet have one) and then a member of the nominating committee will contact you for an interview. The application asks about your leadership experience and your ideas for PRSA Dallas. While responses don’t need to be essays, you’ll want to set aside 15-30 minutes to fill it in. You certainly can put more time into it, but ideally you give the nominating committee a preview of your leadership experience and your desire to be a chapter leader which you can build on in your interview.
Your interview will be virtual with a panel of nominating committee members, typically made up of the immediate past president, current president, president-elect and one or two other current board members. They will ask questions to get to know you better and to expand on your application.
Easy peasy.
What happens after the interview?
In the one or two weeks following the completion of all candidate interviews, a member of the nominating committee will reach out to you to share the outcome. If you are selected, they will ask if you accept the position (you don’t need to decide on the spot), and then you’ll add our annual general meeting to your calendar where next year’s board will be voted on and confirmed by members in attendance.
Being a board member of your local PRSA chapter is an exceptional addition to your resume and an unmatched opportunity to expand your professional network with a variety of people from students, new grads and young pros to mid-career and seasoned professionals, independent practitioners, small business owners and corporate leaders. You will make lasting connections as a board member that will endure your entire career.
What happens when you become a board member?
Being a board member is a significant commitment that comes with its rewards. You have the opportunity to exercise all of the skills that we as PR professionals know best – help build relationships, create memorable experiences for our members, and support professional growth and development.
The 2025 president will host a planning meeting in December and you can begin the transition process with the outgoing board member and you can start building your committee(s) and planning for your respective area.
