This month, PRSA Dallas is focused on career planning and taking advantage of opportunities both internally and externally wherever you are. 
"Mapping and Making Moves: How Communicators Plan Their Career Trajectory" brings together leaders to share how they created their career path through planned and unplanned adjustments, advancements and leveling up. 

Moderated by Veleisa Burrell, Founder & CEO of Narrative Evolution and member of the PRSA Dallas Board of Directors.

Panelists will explore:
  • entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship within agencies, corporations and other environments
  • tools to use personally and with leadership to advocate for what the next level looks, be it flexible work, cross-departmental projects or additional responsibilities
  • intentionality and purposeful mapping of a career that crosses multiple areas of communication, from marketing to media relations

Shawn Williams
Vice President
Allyn Media

 Speaker Biography: Shawn Williams joined the public relations/public affairs firm Allyn Media in June of 2016 where he now serves as Vice President. In November 2016, Shawn was project lead for the unveiling of the Texas African American History Memorial on the South Lawn of the Texas State Capitol. In January 2019, Shawn founded a Social Justice Practice within Allyn Media where he currently serves as project lead. Shawn was named one of the Top 25 Social Media users in Texas by the Austin American Statesman in 2012 and in June 2017 he was named City Influencer’s Think Like A Mogul “Excellence in Media” honoree.

 

  


Komal Parikh

 Speaker Biography: Komal Parikh is the Vice President of Integrated Media Strategy at Weber Shandwick with 10 years of expertise, particularly in the areas of social media strategy, influencer marketing, and program management. Her years of both agency and in-house experience have given her a unique set of consultative perspectives about the evolving world of media.She has worked across a number of industries including Technology, Hospitality, Entertainment, CPG, Retail, Gaming and Travel.Prior to working at Weber Shandwick, Komal worked at Fossil Group and IHG. She has also worked across a number of client accounts including Delta Airlines, Starz, Nestle, and Activision.She currently serves on the 2019-2020 board for the International Association of Business Communicators. 

 

  


Paul Corliss
Chief Communications Officer
University of North Texas System

PAUL CORLISS
Paul Corliss is the Chief Communications Officer for the University North Texas System — a public university system that includes three universities, 10,000+ employees, 45,000+ students and a $1.3 billion budget. He joined the UNT System in 2015 after spending 20 years working as a senior executive in professional sports with NFL, NBA and NASCAR organizations.

In his role as Chief Communications Officer, Corliss serves as the UNT System's lead publicist and marketing strategist – overseeing media relations, branding, advertising, social media, digital communications, photo, video and public affairs, as well as both internal and external communications. Corliss co-hosts a monthly podcast with Chancellor Lesa Roe and serves as the UNT System’s chief spokesperson. From 2017-2019, Corliss also led marketing and communications for UNT Dallas and UNT Dallas College of Law.

Corliss was recruited into higher education and the UNT System in 2015, following a four-year stint as Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the NBA Retired Players Association (NBRPA). In his NBRPA position, Corliss led marketing/communications, community affairs and revenue-generating programs — including sponsorship sales and philanthropic fundraising. Under his leadership, the NBRPA reached new milestones for revenue and media exposure.

Prior to working for the NBA’s official alumni association, Corliss served as Director of Community Affairs & Business Public Relations for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, where he led the team’s crisis communications efforts during Hurricane Katrina. He also served as Director of Communications for NASCAR’s Phoenix International Raceway, helping the raceway to record TV ratings and multiple national and regional awards for social media and advertising campaigns.

Through his own sports marketing company, Grizzly Sports Marketing, Corliss has represented hundreds of celebrity athletes in marketing deals with brands such as Gatorade, Chase Bank, Eckrich Foods and the NCAA Tournament.

Corliss holds a master's degree in organizational leadership and administration from Concordia University Wisconsin and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Texas Christian University.

Parking: PRSA will reimburse those parking at the DMA. Please bring your parking ticket with you to the registration table. Access the DMA parking garage from off St. Paul Street or Harwood Street. Metered parking is also available around the museum on St. Paul Street and Ross Avenue. You can also take DART to the DMA- ride the DART train to the St. Paul Station and walk north to the Museum's Ross Avenue entrance. We also encourage using rideshare apps.

Non-members: $55
Students: $25

Deadline to register: Monday, Feb. 24 at 5:00 pm
An additional fee of $10 will be applied after the deadline.
