Join us for the NCAA Women's Final Four Tip-Off Press Event followed by a private PRSA Dallas lunch at HERO featuring a brief panel discussion with special guests. See free parking info below.

For 50 years, “Title IX” has changed the landscape of sports, giving women in the United States a chance to shine on the playing field.

Title IX requires all educational institutions in the US to reward male and female athletes equally. Along with that, it also ensures the prevention of discrimination when it comes to accessing sports facilities, training centers, equipment, and other support provided to sport programs.

PRSA Dallas will be talking about women in sports, and joining the discussion will be:

  • Dana Thomas, director of communications for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, better known as the NCAA. She will be discussing the importance of women in all college sports, and how far we have come in the past 50 years. Dana is the point person for the NCAA national office on all social media initiatives and is responsible for developing and executing national office social media strategy.
  • We’ll also welcome Andy Silverman, the chief revenue officer of the American Airlines Center right next door. He will talk about the sporting events coming to Dallas and why we should all support these events in our community. In addition to being chief revenue officer at the AAC, over the span of his career, Andy has served as SVP of Sales and Service, EVP Sales, and VP Ticket Sales. As the person in charge of ticket sales, he knows the importance of public relations and developing a buzz in the community to boost excitement about local events. Andy will talk about the importance of the work we communicators do to promote these types of events in Dallas. Without our work promoting our clients’ events, no one would come and buy tickets!
  • Finally, we will welcome Monica Paul, executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission. She will be sharing an inside look at what events (such as women’s sports) bring to Dallas in terms of revenue and tourism. She will discuss why – even if you are not a sports fan – it’s still important to get the Dallas and surrounding communities behind attracting all types of sports to our area.

As the ED of the Dallas Sports Commission, Monica plays an essential role in implementing bid strategies and marketing programs that enhance Dallas’ acquisition of sports competition and events, including solicitation of Olympic, professional, collegiate and amateur sports. Monica also works closely with professional leagues, the NCAA, Olympic National Governing Bodies and amateur sports federations, promoting Dallas as a premier destination for events, conventions and meetings. If there is anyone in Dallas with a vested interest in keeping communications people on their A-Game, it is Monica Paul.
