Presidential PR: What Can We Learn From This Administration’s First 100 Days in Office?

This administration is conducting itself far differently than the norms we might expect of the President. While widely criticized for polarizing dialogue, has his behavior provided a strategic advantage? What can we learn from a change-agent such as President Trump?  Where has he been successful and unsuccessful? Join industry experts as they dig into the Trump administration’s efforts in their first few months in office.

Moderated by Professor Dr. Rita Kirk from SMU, a panel of industry professionals will discuss this administration’s first 100 days in office and how PR has or hasn’t been used effectively. On the panel:

Meet the panel:


Moderator – Dr. Rita Kirk, Southern Methodist University  
Rita Kirk is a senior research professor, award winning teacher and experienced administrator at SMU. A frequent commentator and speaker, she excels as a communication strategist who specializes in the analysis of public arguments and the successful (and ethical) implementation of communication campaigns. Kirk frequently serves as a media commentator and has served as an analyst for CNN during presidential election debates over the past 10 years. She consults with national and multinational corporations on public policy and leadership. Kirk serves as the William F May Endowed Director of the Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility and is a Distinguished Research Professor of Corporate Communication & Public Affairs.



Panelist – Nicole Stockdale, Dallas Morning News
As deputy editorial page editor, Stockdale is the Editorial Department’s operational chief, managing most of the editorial writers and running day-to-day production. She is also in charge of the department’s digital strategy. She joined the editorial board in 2006 after seven years as a copy editor at The Dallas Morning News and The Wichita Eagle. A self-proclaimed political junkie, Stockdale regularly writes on politics from an Editorial Board
perspective. She graduated cum laude from Wichita State University, with a degree in communication and political science.



Panelist – Denise Hamilton, Marauder Political Consultants
Denise is a well-known political activist in Texas. She is known for playing a key role in organizing community defense of Plano's Equal Right Ordinances. The Texas Wins publication and the Dallas Morning News recognized her bold stand against discrimination. Today, she is one of the owners of Marauder Political Consultants and an active member of the Plano Multicultural Outreach Roundtable (MCOR). In 2015, Denise was named as the Civic Award Winner by the Plano Community Forum. Additionally, in 2016, she received the Cultural Diversity award from Women in Power International Ministers. She has been active in local outreaches as a student, mother and substitute teacher. Her passion for youth and adults of Collin County led her to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. She is also a mentor for Big Brother and Big Sister.
